Physical Therapy Negligence
Physical therapy is the treatment of physical dysfunction or injury by the use of therapeutic exercise and the application of modalities, intended to restore or facilitate normal function or development. Physical therapists help persons regain their mobility, flexibility and strength after injury or from extended convalescence.
It is incumbent upon physical therapists to perform their duty in a manner that is accepted by other physical therapists. It is not acceptable for physical therapists to explore new modalities without research and training in the modality to prove its effectiveness. When one method fails it is sometimes the responsibility of the therapist to attempt another modality and not simply abandon the patient.
However, first and foremost it is important that the therapist perform their duty in a safe manner.
